Swimming Pool and Spa Chemistry

Probably the most damaging set of circumstances your Swimming Pool, Spa or Fountain can suffer is unbalanced water Chemistry. Filters plug up, Pumps corrode, Heaters leak, Pool walls etch or bleach, Elements and Thermostats are destroyed and the water will never attain the beautiful, crystal clear sheen that you see in those picture perfect advertisments.

If you haven't already been there, go to the Design page and get some stats on your pool. Enter the numbers into the form below along with the readings from your test kit, and find out approximately how much chemical you should be adding to get the proper balance. There are rules of thumb regarding chemicals for storing, adding and handling. You should be aware of them already and each chemical should have specific instuctions written on them nonetheless. In any event we have included some tips on adding and handling Chemicals, and also a few tips in Our Pool.

Based on the above numbers, see the chart below for the amount of chemical to add. Be sure you use the amount only for the type of chemical you are using.

The numbers generated below are here for comparison to your own calculations. If you find they work well for you, use them. If they don't seem to match your calculations, let us know and we will try to figure out why not. Different manufacturers will have different strengths of chemical. Also, considering the small amount of water used to test for the large volume of water in a pool, it is extremely important you learn to use your test kit properly. It is wise to test twice to compare readings.
